At last, the continuation of AFINET is a reality. This new project – AF4EU – aims to continue the legacy of the previous project and to extend the knowledge acquired in new European countries.

AF4EU is a three-year project composed of 12 partners from 10 countries and coordinated by the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). The project will also benefit from the expertise and commitment of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (Italy), the European Forest Institute (Finland), the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece), Teagasc (Ireland), Ver de Terre (France), FEUGA (Spain), the University of Ghent (Belgium), the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (Portugal), the National Forest Centre (Slovakia), AGAPA (Spain) and ZALF (Germany).

The kick-off of the project took place on January 26th at the Lugo Campus, headquarters of the project coordinator Rosa Mosquera and her team. The meeting started with a brief introduction of each partner and soon work began, having the first presentations and reaching a common understanding of the objectives to be achieved in the next three years.

The following day was devoted to a field visit to some great examples of agroforestry areas in the region: a neighbourhood forest community (a typical Galician private grouping for the management of the forests of a specific area) that with the help of the university is improving the management of its agroforestry lands, and a private foundation with large agroforestry fields.

The work is starting and soon you will hear more from us! Until then, you can watch on YouTube the video of this first great experience.
